DIY Deodorant In 10 Minutes
If you’re like me, you’re tired of paying an arm and a leg for deodorant. You also have no idea what the hell is in it and you never seem to have enough. It’s easy to make your own that works and smells great!
I’ve toyed with the idea of making my own deodorant for a while, but the fear of smelling like sweaty ogre after a hot yoga session is quite debilitating… until you run out of commercial deodorant and you happen to have all the ingredients to give the recipe a try!
Desperate to control my stink, I gathered all of the necessities:
- 6 tbs cold-pressed extra-virgin coconut oil
- 1/4 cup (4 tbs) baking powder
- 1/4 cup (4 tbs) arrowroot (or cornstarch)
- essential oils (optional)
The entire project took less than 10 minutes and wasn’t too messy.
To make your own deodorant, you’ll want to find a nice container. You can use mason jars or re-use the deodorant tubes by giving them a warm-water rinse and peeling the stickers off. I prefer the deodorant tubes because they are already built be in contact with your body. (Otherwise you can scoop your deodorant with your hand or a popsicle stick from the mason jar. #NotSoYummy)
Mix all of the ingredients in a medium-sized bowl, getting the coconut oil as mashed as possible. You can add any essential oils you’re comfortable with. My choices were 5 drops of Sweet Orange essential oil and 7 drops of Grapefruit.
Would I Do This Again?
This recipe provided me two standard-sized deodorant sticks worth and has gotten me A LOT of compliments. I couldn’t be happier and I look forward to using different essential oils next time to really find the perfect scent.
I found this original recipe on WellnessMama.com and have tailored it slightly on how I recommend you make it.
