Drink Up Mountain Switchel
Walking along the beverage isle of Whole Foods is quite an experience.
With so many delicious options and a basket (and a wallet) only so big, each beverage aches to be plucked from the shelf.
“Drink me, I am fresh fruit flavored water!” one urges.
“Pick me – I’m so affordable you can get my other flavor!” another chimes in.
Shooshing them, I silently hunt for the most interesting combination of flavors for a price that’s a no-brainer.
I choose you, Switchel!
Up Mountain Switchel
I picked up the 12oz beverage, being careful not to drop the glass jar all over my breeches (because cool people wear their dirty horse clothes to Whole Foods). Twirling it gave me a few moments of interest as the insides had some powdery substance floating around inside. I accepted the challenge of mystery maple sugar and ginger substance and into my basket it went.
A few shakes of the wrist and I was ready to enjoy this new concoction. Being completely dehydrated from barn work, the popping of the lid made me salivate.
Still ice cold, the first sip surprised me with a nice amount of ginger. Switchel is easy to drink, especially when fresh from the icebox. It’s the kind of drink that you take sips of in order to enjoy every flavor.
To me, the most powerful flavors from the list of ingredients are definitely the fresh ginger root and raw organic apple cider vinegar while the 100% grade A maple syrup takes a backseat, giving the other flavors shotgun. Perhaps this is why the Switchel motto is “Roots, Fruits & Sap.”
Would I Buy Switchel Again?
That’s like asking an astronaut if they would want to go back to space. I’d imagine they’d say DUH! If so, then I agree with the astronaut. Switchel is a great little find from Vermont and I’m so happy to have had the pleasure of enjoying the cutest little beverage on the shelf.
