The Whole Package: An Introduction
Everyone likes to indulge in the little things in life. For some, it’s chocolate ice cream. For others, it might be a new pair of stilettos or a fine bottle of Chardonnay. For myself, it’s an innocent little packet of heirloom seeds, a bag of organic lollipops, or a variety box of pure essential oils.
While a nice bowl of ice cream would be nice, I recently found myself to be lactose intolerant. (I wasn’t always this way; I blame it on my recent fascination with dairy alternatives!) Of course, while most girls would love to prance around in the newest release of exclusive Christian Louboutin’s, I remain the exception. (A pair of TOMS or my Ariat riding boots usually suits me well.) And while I may enjoy a glass of Moscato on rare occasions, I couldn’t tell a Merlot from a Pinot Noir, and that’s OK with me.
Introduction to what went wrong:
Why don’t I enjoy what most others call “normal” things? Well, nothing is wrong. In fact, my life is pretty perfect. My career in design and marketing is on-pointe, I have a wonderful fiancé who loves me through all of my crazy DIY antics, a house over my head, two dogs I would flip the world for, and a family that supports my crazy ideas.
Though there was a period in my life where I tried to enjoy these things, I quickly realized this lifestyle wasn’t for me. I don’t enjoy the drama that ensues on Black Friday when the last Tickle Me Elmo flies off the shelf. I don’t care for those who take advantage of others for their own greedy ego (especially animals). And honestly, I couldn’t care less about the latest trends unless they are hashtags tied to a creative marketing campaign.
However, I do enjoy the basics, and that’s exactly what I plan on improving in my life. The simple pleasures of ethically sourced goods, the joy of growing what I can in my new backyard garden, the warm-hearted feeling I get when I contribute time or supplies to those who need it, and the gratification that ensues when I can troubleshoot or avoid a health issue with natural remedies and preventatives.
That’s what caused me to order a box of pure essential oils and immediately indulge in the whole package!
